Im in need of a mac, however Id rather build one...

Could anyone help me get started ?

Im not looking for a crazy monster machine. Im looking to build something good.

Lets set the budget at 400 - 500 dollars. ( is that feasible ?)

Id love to learn how to do it yet I dont know where to start.

Also:
Whats the difficulty of updating a system like that ?

I would like to run this system for a long time if possible.

Where can I find a list of components that are compatible ?

Thanks for your help.

Start by heading over to www.tonymacx86.com and checking out their CustoMac Buyers Guide, they even have recommended build lists for multiple price points. Once you've chose a build they have full install guides to get you up & running.

The problem with a Hackintosh is that you can never really get everything running at 100%, small but annoying things like power management always seem to have issues. Theres also some built in software thats tied to the Macs serial number that won't work (mostly online stuff like iCloud & Facetime etc).

Updating is a bit of a pain but is possible. Updating to a new major version (like going from 10.5 to 10.6 for example) can be problematic in some cases and you normally have to wait a while for all the utilities to be updated.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

Honestly I dont care much for iCloud & Facetime.. all my files are ether on my HD or oneDrive and onedrive works on mac so :)
