Hi,

I am sure there are plenty of such threads already but I want to absolutely sure before I go ahead and just buy a new PSU.

Recently, my computer started to power itself down (as if somebody held the power button for 3s) and then restart (no errors, BSODs, nothing in the event log). This can either happen or not happen in all possible computer states, from absolute idling to a full-on stress test. I have however notice that Offworld Trading Company (the game) is actually making it restart more often than e.g. League of Legends. So this game has become my go-to to reproduce the problem, although it could happen anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 hours into the game.

I have done a stress test on my GPU/CPU, the temps were normal and the PC did not restart immediately after reaching full load; instead it would restart at a random point in time, the same as if it was idling.

I have done a memtest86 from USB, no errors returned.

I have cleaned my case and PSU from dust, did a fresh install of Windows (which in fact made the restarts more frequent).

Anyway, after a bunch of googling I think it must be the PSU that is somehow derping at random. I have noone to borrow a PSU from so I guess I would have to buy a new one to test. What do you guys think?

My PC Specs:

  • Windows 10 Educational 64 bit
  • Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 3
  • Intel i5 4690k (no overclock)
  • 4x4GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM (1600MHz XMP profile 1)
  • MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G
  • Intel SSD 660p 1TB (Storage)
  • OCZ Arc 100 240GB (OS)
  • Cooler Master V750W
