Hello everyone!

This is my first personal build so I thought I should get some feedback from experienced builders.

Some of the things I plan/will be doing with this rig:

  • Playing games(obviously)
  • Light video editing(nothing too hardcore)
  • Playing games using Nvidia Surround(3 1920x1080 monitors)

Here is the rundown:

CPU: i5-4670K ($229.99 NCIX US)

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i ($94.99 Newegg)

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z87 ($249.99 Newegg)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8GB 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 ($162.99 Newegg)

GPU: EVGA GTX 770 4GB FTW Dual Bios ($415.66 Newegg)

Case: Corsair 300R ($81.44 NCIX US)

PSU: Corsair TX850M 80+ Bronze Certified ($109.99 Newegg)

Optical Drive: The cheapest one made by Asus

SSD: Maybe the Samsung 840 Evo?

HDD: Already have a 1TB HDD for storage.

The total cost of this rig including shipping is $1408.99(US). That is without the mail-in rebates of course.

I have $1450(US) to spend on it but I'm willing to spend a bit more if it's worth it. So I'm looking for suggestions on what I should change or add to this build to make it moar better-er.

Nothing is set in stone so make whatever changes you want.

The one item that I am most curious about is a case. Any mid-tower ATX cases that have excellent dust filtering.

CPU: i7-4770K @ 4.3 Ghz | Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX | Motherboard: Asus Z97 Pro Wifi AC (USB 3.0 rev) | Memory: G.Skill 2x8GB Ripjaws @ 1866MHZ | GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Gaming | PSU: Corsair RM850 | Case: Fractal Arc Midi R2

PSU, you could get away with a 750w, provided its a good quality one. But you can just leave it if you want.
Ram is fine however you could get 1866MHz or 2133MHz and just see how it plays out with your IMC on the CPU, or try and overclock the ram you have. Up to you mate.

AS for the case.. I can point you towards NZXT, Corsair or Bitfenix
Overall very nice.

CORSAIR RIPPER: AMD 3970X - 3080TI & 2080TI - 64GB Ram - 2.5TB NVME SSD's - 35" G-Sync 120hz 1440P
MFB (Mining/Folding/Boinc): AMD 1600 - 3080 & 1080Ti - 16GB Ram - 240GB SSD
Dell OPTIPLEX:  Intel i5 6500 - 8GB Ram - 256GB SSD

PC & CONSOLE GAMER

I went with the hero motherboard since its a ROG mobo.  There is a comparison here and a thread about it here.  I also put in a fractal desinn case, since I love those cases.  I changed to PSU to a 80+ gold 750W from corsair.  Also, I have only heard good things about the evo ssd's.

I thank you all for your input and I have come to a conclusion on the build.

Here it is.

CPU: i5-4670K ($229.99 NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i ($94.99 Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero ($199.99 Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB)  DDR3-1866MHz ($174.99 Newegg)
GPU: EVGA GTX 770 4GB FTW Dual Bios ($415.66 Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Black ($112.98 Newegg)
PSU: Corsair TX850M 80+ Bronze Certified ($109.99 Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer ($28.94 Newegg)
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 128GB ($84.99 Newegg)

Total cost: $1412.32(US)
Total cost with discounts through Newegg: $1350.72

I changed the case from the 300R to the Arc Midi R2 because I fell in love with all of those dust filters. Plus that case is built like a tank.

Perhaps I should take that extra $100 and invest in some quality fans and a few video games.
But as for right now, it is time to order the parts.  :)

If you want to save some money you could go with any ram from here.  I would get the A-DATA XPG V2 or any gskill pair.  Also, the PSU is overkill unless you want to add another 770 in the future.  You could get something like this.  It is 80+ gold and fully modular.

I do plan on adding a second 770 at some point. Would the RM750 be enough or should I go with the RM850?

RM850 it is then. Thank you much danejesse1. I'll start a new thread once I get the parts in and I'll update it as I build it.

I was just looking this over, and you could get a GTX 770 for $310.  Also, the pricing on the ram seems a little high.

750w and 62.5A would be cutting it close, so I would go with a 850W PSU.  Some good options are the RM850, AX860 (i or no i), and the XFX 850 ProSeries.

RM850 it is then. Thank you much danejesse1. I'll start a new thread once I get the parts in and I'll update it as I build it.

No it wouldn't... The 850w is overkill. The 750w is already plenty for 2 780's. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_770_sli_review,4.html

What I suggested is better and cheaper.
