Encryption Best Practices

peteremcc

Hi all,

I have recently moved from a Mac-only environment to a mixed Mac / PC environment and I'm wondering what is considered best practice for External HDDs and SSDs that need to be shared between both Macs and PCs?

I've found some software that claims to add Bitlocker support to Mac, is that the way to go?

Or am I better with something platform-agnostic like VeraCrypt?

Thanks!

Well I use veracrypt to protect my passwords file. It works for me, and I haven't seen any scathing reviews for it. Its also very easy to use as well. It creates container files that can only be accessed with a password through Veracrypts virtual drives. Its the next best thing to Bit locker according to reviews and its free.

Veracrypt is free, open-source and been audited by an independent third-party team.
It's still my encryption go-to choice for my Windows+Linux environment.
