Hello though this may not be the section for this i don't really know of an appropriate one on here.

 

I am wanting to set up a small CCTV system and am wondering where i should start on it if there is anyone with knowledge on CCTV systems and has one of that can offer some advice on it that would be great 

 

i have some old servers that i don't use HP G4 DL360P i wonder if i could use this somehow to save some money ?

 

im looking to set something up that is not to costly only 2 or so cameras that will do a good job.

There is no easy answer to this question.

 

Everything i know about this subject other than having to fix it when estates crash my switches is from here.  There allot of info in there.  more than you need.

The short answer is yes you can use the old servers and get some ip camera's no problem.  it will work great .

 

the issues being the bandwidth.  if you can patch CCTV onto its own switch/ mini Ethernet network its worth doing.

They start at £50 and go upto £1000.

 

if you just want basic CCTV the £7r5-100 cams are fine if you want something you could put in court then you will need the £150+ cams and you will need to record in 1080p or 720p at 15+ fps.  (this takes allot of space and bandwidth)
