Please power down and connect pcie power cabled to this graphics card

So I upgraded to a 2070 super from a 1070. I got the above error message. After trouble shooting and determining my 8 pin and 6+2 pin connectors worked I RMA the card. I received a replacement today and am getting the same issue. I have a corsair hx650 watt psu which is supposed to be enough. I also have an 8700k overcooked to 4.8 ghz and an asus dog strix z370 e mobo. Am I missing something?

Your PSU may be the issue then, if the cards aren't getting the juice. Could be internal or at the connectors.

 

can you try another PSU?  650w is plenty for your setup, so that's not the issue.

 

How did you verify the cables work, anyway?

My 1070 still powers up which uses 8 pin and my girlfriend has a 1060 which uses 6 pin. My psu powered up both just fine. Why would it not be able to power the 2070 super?

Well your PSU didn't power them both at the same time, using the 8 AND the 6 pin.

 

Something about that additional load is upsetting things.

 

Get your hands on another PSU, since you already have a second 2070.  It's very rare that 2 cards back to back would have the same issue, it's not unheard of, but the scientific test has to move on to the PSU now.

Plug in both cards to your PC and see if they both work.  The 1070 and the 1060.

I guess I just hoped there was another solution. I'm assuming disabling my overclock wouldn't help?

Nope.  That PSU can handle everything Overclocked without issue.

Fair enough. I guess while I got you here any psu recommendations?
