Hey everyone,

So I’m an Database Admin and hardware enthusiast... so not a total noob, but networking is my weakness. After a bunch of testing I determined that my 2.4GHz channel was interfering with my Xbox 360 controllers connection to the pc usb wireless adapter... so I moved the wireless router and have had no issues... but now I’m building a new office and have to do some re-wiring of the network a bit because having the WiFi router in the attic gives us low points in my bedroom downstairs. I’ve got an asus wireless AC router that supports AI mesh, and a Netgear router that the 5ghz channel doesn’t work that’s just laying around. Here’s my question. Can I connect my modem to my Netgear router and set that up as an AP repeater and 2.4Ghz only, and then connect one of its Ethernet outputs to the ASUS router as the primary WiFi router? If that doesn’t work then I’ll probably break down and get another AImesh router and do that... and that makes me wonder how AI Mesh compares to an Ethernet connection to a second ASUS router as an AP repeater? Thank you in advance!

Is the modem a standard modem with no router functionality or is it a combo unit? If it's just a modem, no router/wifi/etc. functionality then putting the AP in the mix will mean that devices gets the public IP address and you'll probably run into a ton of issues either ended up with a double NAT situation or unable to access the internet from anything behind the device in AP mode.
