Can't boot into Linux

After Installing linux (finally) it asked me to restart the computer and after restarting the PC I went straight into windows 7, the Installed linux on a seperate partition. It's not asking me to which OS to boot to, its just taking me straight into windows 7. any thought??

You have to install grub on the main partition, not the second partition that you made for linux. Redo the install and make sure you put grub on the boot partition.

sounds like you do not have the GRUB installed.

if you install GRUB , you will need to add windows to the list so you can boot to windows, if not, it will boot to linux.

It has been too long for me to remember how to do this the one time.

Since then I have switched to running linux VMs instead.

After Installing linux (finally) it asked me to restart the computer and after restarting the PC I went straight into windows 7, the Installed linux on a seperate partition. It's not asking me to which OS to boot to, its just taking me straight into windows 7. any thought??

Grub is the loader that lets you choose what os you want to boot into. When you're installing linux on the same page you choose the partition to put linux on, there is a box that you choose where to put grub. This needs to be on the MBR (main boot record) to function, otherwise you just boot into windows. You put the linux install on your partitioned drive, then the grub loader usually on the drive with 1a if I remember correctly.

The partition the C drive is on yes. Grub has to overwrite the windows MBR to install itself.

I'm doing this from memory so I'll try my best. In the first box you scroll down and find the partition you want to install linux on. You then click add... I believe. Then there is some settings in there that you need to do but  I can't remember off the top of my head. That bottom box where it says bootloader is talking about grub, that's where you need to change it to put it on your mbr.

Yes that dev/sd1 is what you need to select for grub. @Real_nimr0d_3

Don't feel bad, It took me forever to get ubuntu installed on my rig. I had to reinstall 3 times before I got it working, we all have to learn, we weren't born with any of this knowledge. :)

On the bootloader option was there a selection for dev/sd1a?

You could try using wubi to install. It's the second option on this page about halfway down.

EDIT Wait look at this, this is what you need to do that you may not have already.

I can not for the life of me find the webpage that helped me with the same problem you're having :(
