Freesync2 with nvidia-card

Squashie

I have a Freesync2 monitor(Samsung CRG9) and im trying to understand how nvidias freesync compability works with this. I have googled quite a bit on the topic but im not much smarter. My understanding so far is that i will get variable refresh-rate with an nvidia card. Some say that HDR can be activated manually when doing this.

So my question is, can anyone here tell me how an nvidiacard will work with a Freesynnc2 monitor? What advanntages do i get if i use an AMD card and run full Freesync2 setup?

Cheers!

I am finding conflicting information on the Internet whether G-Sync on Freesync monitors can be enabled over HDMI or not. Some say it is possible, some say it is not possible, some say it is only possible on Turing GPUs (GTX 16xx, RTX 20xx, Quadro RTX series). DisplayPort should definitely be working if the monitor has it.

General setup is the same - enable FreeSync on the monitor (in the monitor settings, if it's there), then go to Nvidia Control Panel and you should be able to configure G-Sync in there.

HDR can be enabled in Windows 10 settings.

In general you loose some freesync2 extensions which effect HDR, but they are very very minor. Like auto switching between HDR and SDR (what you do manually), low latency HDR processing blabla. Most of it im pretty sure is just marketing to buy AMD rather than Nvidia...
