So I was running Call of Duty Modern Warfare and I come back about 5 minuites later to my pc shut off. I check Event Viewer only to see a "critical" Event 41, Kernal power. It says "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." What could've caused this? I also see a bunch of yellow warnings in the Event Viewer as well during this time.

Hmm, there are a lot of issues that can caused this kernel panic.

So, maybe first of all, you can write down or list down your system specification.

Here are something you can try:

- Make sure your system is clean of dust, especially on your CPU heat sink and GPU heat sink. Clean the fan as well.

- If you have over clocked any component, try to set everything to default or automatic.

- Game file corrupt. Try reinstalling the game.

- Make sure the components driver (especially graphic driver) are up to date.

- Try to run the game and see if it happens again. Take note of what went wrong, such as fan suddenly spin very fast, blue screen (yes, can happens sometimes, but Windows may not have enough time to dump the error before it turned off).

I have ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_spectrum

I apologies if my comments or post offends you in any way, or if my rage got a little too far. I'll try my best to make my post as non-offensive as much as possible.

This could be caused by so many different things, it is hard to narrow down due to just 1 crash.

I would not worry about it for now.

If it keeps happening for some reason, check the things @Chiyawa mentioned above. Could be a software or hardware issue. Random shutdowns are often caused by faulty PSU's, but if it happens in-game only could be the GPU. Could also be faulty RAM.

Good luck!

Its actually worse than that...

A Kernel Power error simply means the computer lost power unexpectedly, it doesn't give any information about what happened (and nor can it as it lost power so was not able to even try and discover what caused the fault).

It could literally be anything from the plug socket to a component failing.

I fully concur with checking temps of the CPU & GPU and reverting any overclock. It's very unlikely to be caused by software (though not impossible).

It could even be the cable that connects the computer to the wall or an overloaded gang extension.

The smart money would be on the PSU being at fault, thats certainly the most likely culprit here.

FYI if a BSOD occurs it means Windows has already created a log of the error, you would expect to see the BSOD in the logs before the Kernel Power event. It doesn't need to complete the memory dump to create the error log.

I just in the past few days upgraded my cpu and mobo to Ryzen 7 3700x and an aorus elite wifi, so I wouldn't think any of those would be the problem. I got my 2060 super around Christmas time so still new. Do you think I could've possibly messed something up while installing the new Mobo? This crash has only happened one time and it was while I was on modern warfare.

That actually depends on several factors. First and foremost is your PSU. What PSU does your system use currently?

Since all of your components are new, I can conclude that most components should work fine.

Anyway, are you using Uninterrupted Power Supply?
