Hi there y'all!

So I'm building a machine that I develop stuff on and occasionally game and here's some relevant info

  • My development work is related to machine learning which would explain an overkill on a GPU that I "occasionally game" on, since I really like them CUDA cores.
  • Running multiple VMs at a time is something that needs to be as smooth as possible.
  • I'm located in Croatia (EU)
  • Soft budget cap is 4000 Euros
  • I don't need monitors or peripherals.
  • I need my machine to be as quiet as possible (nothing hardcore like fanless build, but quiet enough to have it on my desk if needed and not be annoyed by fan noise)

Here's my list:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero
  • RAM: 64 Gigs of DDR4 RAM (this is have a question about)
  • GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GAMING OC
  • Case: NZXT H710i
  • PSU: Corsair AX1200i Digital ATX 1200 Watt
  • Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H150i Pro
  • SSD: Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus M.2 NVMe

My questions and other related info

  1. RAM - I've done some basic research into compatibility between RAM and Motherboards and I'm having trouble finding relevant info if there's a really good motherboard that could run 4000 MHz+ RAM and on top of that I'd need a 16GB modules to be available since my plan is to have 64 gigs of ram. Am I asking too much? Is 4000Mhz+ an overkill, is CAS latency more relevant? Suggestions are welcome.
  2. Is x570 chipset a way to go? Or should I wait for something newer/better, more future-proof?
  3. Is there a decent motherboard that fits with question number 1 and has 2x  m.2 slots perhaps?
  4. Since I don't plan to do any significant CPU overclocking, is watercooling needed? I do know that ryzen9s dissipate a lot of heat and I'm interested in noise levels coming from both air and watercooling solution that would be able cool this effectively under decent workload (these workloads sometimes tend to last for hours, 10+ at a times)
  5. I'm not in a rush to buy this now. I can wait for couple of months.

That's it for now.

Thank you for your time,

A.

i'd go for something like this. 3950 is a significant upgrade over the 3900. the dh-n15 is the best air cooler on the market. 3600C16 is the sweet spot for ryzen, no need for 4000+. I doubt x670 will be out in a few months, so x570 is what you have to get. The motherboard I picked is very high quality. Since it supports pcie 4.0, i've picked a pcie 4.0 ssd as main drive, + another very fast one for extra storage. no point in trowing money away on samsung. the 850W psu is more than enough, unless you're considering running 2 gpus in sli.

@boggy77 thank you very much for the suggestions.

Yeah the idea behind 1200W PSU was to leave room for potential extra GPU.

I'll look into other components on your list, but I like the suggestions on the first glance.
