Do a video on low power/low cost open source NAS options

fatmoop

I've become very reliant on a home NAS system with many work/side project/media center systems. Not many people use the system at once, so there's no real point in dedicating a full desktop that sucks up 100+ watts. For my case I've got 2x 8TB drives, one plugged in only when backing up, other one is the main drive. The setup can deliver ~900mbps samba shares using OpenMediaVault

I ended up using a rock64 which can be grabbed for <30$ with: rock64 sbc, psu, and sd card on ebay. Its got 1x usb3, 2x usb2, and 1x gbps networking. It's also configurable for rsync or backing up to a second usb drive. The whole system is <10watts idle. I've been using this for ~2 years and fits my needs perfectly.

Currently a pi4 would be better as it has 2x usb3. Some other SBCs to consider: ODROID-HC2, jetson nano (i think those are usb3 ports).

Does anyone have a similar setup/better options for a low power/cheap/open source setup?
