Small question about RAM installation

I'm going to be installing some RAM for a friend (he doesn't trust himself not to mess it up) and I have a question.

While I do know how to install RAM on the motherboard, I'm not sure about after that.

What I mean is: will the RAM work straight away after installation or does something in the BIOS have to be changed or similar software related stuff have to be done afterwards in order to make it work?

uh, you might have to go into the bios and check if it's recognized, and the speed it's clocked it is correct.
