You only update BIOS if:

  • You have a hardware compatibility problem (example, needing to get a B450 board to accept a Ryzen 3000 processor)
  • There's a feature a newer version offers that you'll actually want
  • There's a security issue with the current version that's fixed in a later one

Otherwise it doesn't matter when you do it. But don't update BIOS just because.

Hello!

I am building a PC with a Ryzen 3600x and an x470 motherboard, so I need to update my bios; do I update the bios before or after installing windows?

Thanks

With a x 470 mobo you need to update the bios prior everything else, because it won't even turn on, if you live in the US amd has a program in which they lend you a cpu for it, if not you can ask the store to do it for you (it's what I'm gonna do)
