I recently had a hard drive failure, but unfortunately being the dumb ass that I am, I hadn't backed up so I lost everything. I bought a new hard drive and OS and set up everything to how I used to have it. However, downloading the necessary drivers I noticed that my internet was slower than it used to be so I checked what my speeds were on speedtest.net and noticed that I was getting nowhere near the speeds I'm paying for. I did some digging and noticed that my adapter was running at 54.0 Mbps as opposed to the 140-300 I used to have. I believe this is a problem with the 802.11 client but can someone help diagnose what the problem is and the solution. I would appreciate any response, thank you!

Did you install the correct driver on your computer and is it up to date? Also what is the wirless router you are using? You could always set your router back up again from factory defaults, you will need to connect to the router by ethernet to set it up after a reset.

I believe I have the most recent driver as I downloaded it from the manufacturer's website (its an Atheros AR9287 btw).

I am using a modem/router combo that was supplied from my ISP (Bell Canada)

I'll try to reset my router but I want to see what other options I have first

Then it seems to be an issue with the one computer? Also where are you getting these rated speeds from? Also can you do a speedtest.net for us? Also is it for transferring data between devices within your personal network or is it being used for connection to the internet?

sounds like you put the wrong driver on the laptop for the wifi adapter.  its basically running at B/G and not N.  try changing the driver and making sure in the driver options N is enabled.

I am assuming your running 2.4Ghz and not 5ghz AC
