Thunderbolt/Firewire Stream?? and usb 4

So i've heard many people refer to firewire working as a 'stream' and not as packets hence u cant convert it to usb.

 

Can someone give me some further detail for this? Everything eventually has to be converted to packets, no? So how does this work.

 

Also USB4 is supposed to work off same principle as thunderbolt, and if this works as a 'steam', are packets being phased out??

So I researched a lot and found a little crap about DMA and a little crap about ACK/NAK if someone wanna tell me how these two get converted if they do?
