I'd get the cheaper one. The main difference between the 2 is the sensor and the cable. The Proteus uses the 3366 sensor and the Hero uses Logitech's own HERO sensor. Both are excellent sensors and perform similarly. (The only actual difference is that you can't adjust LOD on the HERO AFAIK)

 

The 502 HERO also has a better cable (thinner and more flexible) but that's pretty much it.

I recommend just the regular Proteus. The wired HERO version is barely worth the extra money. They're the same mouse but as mentioned above with slight tweaks to the sensor and the cable.
