So someone updated the BIOS motherboard and i was there when he did, it it was a successful update it finished and when it restarted it shut down turned on again shut down and again turned on, but no signal on the monitor waited like 20 mins then i pressed the power button to turn it off, the keyboard doesnt turn on  but mouse yes it always shuts down twice then stays that way without monitor signal

Things iv tried

-cleared cmos

-removed graphics card

-made a bootable usb drive (saw on some forums about it )

-checked cpu

-removed all my ssd and hdd

-removed all the usb cables from behind

-tried hdmi,d-sub,display port,dvi-d

Tried both mb and graphic card slots about it

-changed psu

In the motherboard cpu and dram leds flash but vga doesnt and then it restarts, also cpu fan spins.

Cpu specs

-i5 8400

-8gb ddr4 2400mhz

-msi h310m pro vh

-gtx 1080

-cooler master 750w

Doesn’t sound like a successful bios update to me.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

I noticed in your list of things you didn't mention re-seating your ram. It's a good place to start when you suffer boot issues after moving a pc.

I actually tried that too but the motherboard only has 2 dim slots so idk

It went 100% and it said completed, how the usual bios update goes.

Doesn’t mean it worked right.

Greetings @drinlajqi,

I saw a similar issue where someone with a H310m Pro VH solved them by using only one stick of RAM in slot #2 (furthest away from the CPU). If that does not work, shut down and try switching sticks, but again use the farthest RAM slot. Let us know if you see any change in behavior, especially in the color or blink codes on the H310m's EZ Debug lights.

Did that the same process still restarts twice with no monitor signal on either gpu or motherboard

Here is a video

@drinlajqi Do you have alternate hardware to test with? (CPU/RAM) I am aware that a BIOS update does nothing to physical hardware, however, it is possible that the BIOS update tightened timings or lowered default voltages and went beyond the tolerances of a component.

It may help to know what behavior the machine was experiencing that the BIOS update was intended to fix.

Is there any change to the error sequence when you attempt to boot with no RAM at all?

Thank you for taking a video. I have difficulty seeing the writing beside the EZ Debug lights. Is it the CPU light that comes on, then the RAM light comes on while the CPU light is on, both turn off, then CPU flashes briefly?

I have heard of some success with newer non-responsive boards by removing the onboard BIOS battery, unplugging the motherboard power leads, and leaving it for a few hours while you are otherwise occupied. Specifically this is suggested when clearing the BIOS through the normal means as you did does not help.

The boot time of the pc was kinda slow and my brother thought updating the bios would fix it when i saw him doing it i tried stopping him but it was too late

I tried without ram and was happy when the pc didnt restart twice by it self but still no display.

This is a cheap board but still i rather try fix it rather than throw it

I will take the battery tonight and leave it till the morning.

The first video is with ram

The second is without it

Thanks alot for trying to help me..

No worries, @drinlajqi, happy to help.

This is really seeming to me like the updated BIOS is using some sort of setting that your RAM doesn't support. What type of RAM are you using? It looks like HP proprietary RAM. If I recall correctly, HP is one of the OEM's that fiddled with their RAM to ensure that only HP RAM can be installed in an HP machine. Don't quote me on that, however, it's been quite some time.

At this point, especially seeing that removing the RAM results in a different error, I'm going to say that you should try a stick of RAM from another machine. Try for a non-OEM stick, one that doesn't say Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc on it.

It is a samsung ddr4 2400 mhz, i will check tomorrow if i can find someone that has one.

Does it have to be 2133, 2400 or 2666 mhz

Your board supports up to 2666 mhz, so anything that speed or less is fine. Because it is a troubleshooting step, and you're not specifically looking for performance, it should not matter.

Samsung is a reputable brand, I don't think they would have added anything special to their RAM that the BIOS update would have made incompatible. I apologize, from the video it looked like an HP OEM stick.

That being said, with the change in status when no RAM is installed, I'd still like to learn the results of a different stick of RAM.

Because this is turning into a longer POST troubleshoot, I might suggest breadboarding the motherboard but ONLY if you feel comfortable doing so and are able to properly ground yourself. Basically that means to take the motherboard out of the case and place it on an insulated surface (cardboard will work), connect the motherboard power headers only, remove the GPU, and have one stick of RAM in the machine. Keep track of where the power switch connector is so that you can short it later to attempt turning on the PC. Yes, this may seem quite excessive for a BIOS update issue, but I would like to neutralize as many factors as possible while the issue is diagnosed.

Right now the motherboard has only 1 stick of ram,cpu , the cpu fan, and just the front panel switch power basically breadboarding except in the case.

Apologies, I did not state why I wanted you to attempt breadboarding. One of the reasons to breadboard is to ensure that no parts of the motherboard are touching the case and shorting when they should not be. Such can happen when motherboard standoffs are misaligned, worn, or slightly mismanufactured. If a component that was originally disabled in the BIOS was shorting, but a BIOS update re-enabled it, breadboarding would reveal that.

In any case, definitely try different RAM first, it would save a lot of effort if that was the issue.
