I’ve spent ages on trying to work this out and haven’t had any success and decided to come on here to see if anyone intelligent or an expert on pcs will help me aha. I’ve built my first pc and I finally got enough parts to what I think is enough to turn it on, I’ve got my cpu, gpu, ram, motherboard, case fans, power supply and all the correct cables linked up in my case all supposedly working. (Except a Cpu fan)

When I press the power button the computer turns on for 10 seconds before turning off for 5 and booting up again, this continuously happens until I pull the plug, this only happens when my cpu isn’t but as soon as I try turning it on with my cpu in it turns on for 2 seconds instead of 10 and immediately turns off again ,but this time it might only try one more time not loop itself before, not even showing any response other than the green light on my graphics card before me having to unplug it and replug it or switch the switch on the power supply on and off.

Someone please help me it would be greatly appreciated thanks x

Can we get the specs of your PC? It sounds like you are having a boot loop and in this case it could be a motherboard or CPU, going by the fact the GPU is getting power and is powering on, Im going to assume the GPU and PSU are fine. It could also be a CPU and Motherboard incompatability, even if the socket is the same for both, some motherboards depending on their chipset need a bios update to function

Main PC | AMD R7 3700X | Noctua D14 | MSI RTX 2080 Super XS OC | Corsair Vengence LPX 32GB DDR4 3200MHz | MSI B550A Pro | 1TB PNY XLR8 NVMe SSD | Kingston A400 960GB SSD | 2TB Western Digital Green HDD | Fractal Design Define R6TG |

Yep after seeing the video there is defo something shorting it, if you say it stays on for longer when you take the CPU out, imma guess its that. if you could check the cpu name again, that would help though

The 2400 is a 2nd gen cpu, the motherboard you have gotten is a h110 which is for 6th gen. they are completely different. They have completely different sockets, the 2400 is LGA1155 whereas the h110 is LGA1151. There is no fix, they are incompatible with eachother

Honestly im kinda surprised it didnt just poof into a ball of magic smoke, with the pinouts being different. Thank god you have an asus psu otherwise this pc would have been dead, I still think you have royally killed that CPU, and potentially the motherbaord socket, but we can hope at least one of them survived

So?

oh sorry i thought you meant how you would check incompatibilities

the only way in this scenario is to get another compatible motherboard or cpu and switch them out

Just to check all the pins in the motherboard look good right?

Surprisingly that socket looks ok, cant tell but looks like you might have damaged the black plastic in the top right of the picture.

As the i5-2400 is LGA1155 it doesnt physically fit in the LGA1150/1 sockets, so luckily you cant really crush the pins. Did you damage the CPU? Pretty sure you would have had to to get that retention bracket down....

So for a CPU compatible with that board, probably get a i5 7500

No it’s fine but has some marks on the side showing stress I think the motherboards ok so I’m going to purchase an i5 7500 now so it’s compatible with my h110 chip set on my motherboard
