Unstable overclock

So i have an Inno3d gtx 1070 v2. Pretty old card, but also not the best for demanding games. So what do i do? Overclock of course!. Problem is, on msi afterburner, i can't go over like +150mhz, or i just go completely unstable and crash in most games after a few minutes. I have increased my power limit, my temp limit it 77C. Would increasing the core voltage help with an unstable overclock? (i have increased it by 5% at the moment, i will try increments of 5). I don't really plan on lowering the clocks, i wanna push for the highest fps for my 144hz monitor.

That temp limit seems really low to me. Did you meant that card temp is at 77c or actual temp limit in msi afterburner is set at 77c ??

i set it to 77C myself, is that low? At stock, it was at 73C or something like that

Well imo is way too low, that may be the issue when oc. Try setting it at max (slider all the way to the right) it should be around 90c (even that it’ll not reach that temps)

Yes sir I’m sure. Atm you set it up that power limit is not holding you back but the temp limit will hold you back.

doesn't some solder melt at 90C, also max temp limit on msi afterburner is 92, soooo if its using the solder that melts that low...

If you start hitting 92c on the card that means you have some serious cooling problem.
The idea of that is that you don’t want to limit your card in any way, and when you setting up temp limit it’ll limit the card boost only cos is getting near the limit which you sets.
I’m using gtx970 temp limit in msi afterburner is set at max (92c) but my card never hits more than 72c

according to my friend who has dealt with inno3d before, its really bad at cooling, i mean i don't really pay attention, or tested it because my temp limit was at stock. but oh well, ive increased it

Once you start oc the card expect the temp will go higher as well, but you can always change fan curve for more aggressive. Also new thermal paste may help.

What you can do is just test it, increase power and temp limit and see if you can oc more and monitor the temps. If they go to high and you not gonna feel comfortable with the just lower it down.
