Dell Optiplex 7010 cpu compatibility

I have a old i5 2500k laying about and I'm trying to see if it works. I wanted to buy a cheap OEM motherboard off ebay to see if it would work. The optiplexs motherboard is 1155 but in its cpu compatibility list it doesn't list any i5 below the 3000 series, I'm wondering if it's a chipset limit or just something that it was old at the time so they would not have tested it. if this motherboard would not work can anyone point me at a cheap oem board it would work with. thanks in advance

If you want to get out most from that cpu I would suggest buying some 2nd hand mobo from ebay (z77) so you can oc this bad boy.

I dont know if it works, I don't want to buy a 70 dollar motherboard, if the cpu doesn't work to begin with
