Electric shock from case

Go to solution Solved by Akira Shimazu,

YOU are fine. god.

So i was building a pc and i wasn't touching the motherboard or anything else electronic, but then i touched the case and got an electric shock. Did something in the pc get fried?

You're fine. The motherboard standoffs act as a protector towards the motherboard.

only way to know for sure is to power it on and see if it works. we're not magicians you know, lots of variables here.

Haven't had a chance to power it on yet since it is my friend's and we're finishing it on friday.

The electric shock was most likely static electricity discharging onto your case.

Is that good or bad?

probably this.

if you are unlucky the static would have gone through the case, through the I/O plate, through the board and into the vulnarable CPU or something.

that probability of this happening is less than 0,0000000001% though.

boards these days are fairly bulletproof.

In this case seeing that you touched your case instead of any components. This is good. You are fine. Stop tweaking out.

Wear a wristwrap next time. Make sure it's not connected to anything and use tweezers.
