x72 am4 bracket - plastic ring?

I just got my AM4 mounting kit form NZXT to replace the clip-on type what was in the box.
In the kit There are 4 standsoffs, 4 thumb screws, a metal bracket and a plastic ring (it about 1/4" high with 4 tabs)

What is that plastic ring for? It clips on to the metal bracket. Is it some sort of trim?

And, anyone compared the clip-on and the standoff type brackets? Is it even worth swapping them?

I'm not sure either but that sounds about right. Have you tried contacting NZXT about it?
