I have a Dell G1700 series lap top that came with a 128GB SSD boot drive.  after some issues where the drive was to full to update windows I started looking for an upgrade to the boot SSD this lead my to talk to my schools IT department were they told me that I had a NVME compatible M.2 port on my laptops mother board.  I then some time later was looking at my computer's part specks and found that the computer has a Sata SSD installed.  after this I talked to Dell support and asked what SSD i could buy to upgrade my laptop. after giving the laptop's product code the support staff informed me that I could install an NVME SSD via link to the Dell store page. with this information I then purchased a Intel NVME SSD from new egg.  now that I have time to swap out my old boot drive for the new one I looked into how it could be done and learned that I would need a USB to M.2 adapter.  while looking for one I only found adapter that serviced one SSD type or the other.  I don't want to end up bricking either the new SSD (it is under a return policy until January) or my laptop.  do any of you know any thing that could help me.

TLDR

I have a Dell 1700

both Dell and my schools tech support say that I can use a NVME SSD

the laptop came with a SATA SSD (as per the dell website, what it reads as in the settings, and general from factor)

I have not found any dual compatible M.2 adapters (IE compatible with SATA and NVME)
