 Hello!

Finally got all my parts for my new PC, decided to jump in head first, the spent two hours building it only to have nothing happen when pressing the power button... I took it into a PC shop since my troubleshooting knowledge is zero, and didn’t want to deal with the stress. My main question is they are saying it’s a PSU problem, I have the X570 Asrock steel legend motherboard which has an additional 4 pin ATX connector. My SeaSonic FOCUS Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply only has the 8 pin ATX connector. It was my understanding was the 8 pin connector was enough to power the board, and the extra 4 pin was for overclocking. Would not having this extra 4 pin plugged in be why my PC isn’t posting? Any help would be greatly appreciated, my frustration level is at maximum. Also, I’m taking recommendations for new PSUs if that’s the case.

Thank you, Tanner!

This is true.

Did they say what type of PSU problem you specifically had? If not, then you should contact SeaSonic (or whatever retailer you bought it from) and get your warranty sorted out

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

might be wise to try and get ahold of someone who knows what they are doing, and if it comes down to it, take it to an independant computer repair store, they are rare but well worth it.

Sadly... it was my independent computer repair store I brought it to...

He didn’t say there was anything wrong with the PSU, he just said it wasn’t working because the extra 4 pin connector wasn’t plugged in... They didn’t have an extra PSU on hand with both an 8 pin and 4 pin... Just wanted verification prior to buying a new PSU with an 8 pin and extra 4 pin to test it myself!

The Asrock X570 doesn't require the extra 4-pin to be connected to POST. I would recommend checking all your components and wires, making sure they are installed securely and correctly. If so, most likely a PSU problem. Also, check you MOBO manual. They will most likely tell you in there that the extra 4-pin is not needed.

May help to check the post status checker LED's on the mobo. That might give you an indication of where the problem lies.

Then the repair shop is lying to you, or doesn't know better. Something else is wrong.
