new*ish* to networking

KutieZ

i am going to be switching over to a mesh system... specifically: TP-Link Deco -- I currently Have Fios with their modem, What im trying to do is set up the 'apartment' to have its own wifi, and my house to be on mesh (see illustration) whats the best way to set up the apartment with its own wifi so they are not on mine, but also have the ability to plug in ethernet if they need? There is currently a cat wire that runs underground to the apartment that goes into a router now, but if power goes out or anything things go array (house cant get wifi until the 'router' in apartment is completely rebooted)

If there's only one router you may or may not be able to. Some Routers support a Guest network. I've not used this myself though so I can't say if it will put them on a different network/Subnet or if it will support security.

In the event you want more control than a Guest network you'll need to install a 2nd Router. Then have the mesh devices connect to the router you want them to associate with. (You'll have to lock-down the router on their end though so they don't just plug a laptop into the "WAN" cable and have access to your LAN.)

I can't say what frequency mesh devices operate on but it's possible also having yours vs the Apartments operate on different channels may help avoid interference.
