Hi all...

I currently am running this motherboard:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131729&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=4003003&SID=7n37s4lkepfu

I am considering upgrading to this motherboard:   http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X79-DELUXE-DDR3-1333-Motherboards/dp/B00F6EAXV6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1391969688&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+x79-deluxe+motherboard

What are the real differences I will notice?   (or am I wasting money?

Im a little new at doing my own builds. This will be only my second build. Thats why im asking for help.   Thank you...

Let me get this straight... Your engine is 1.9 liters and my Pepsi is 2?

Other than the significantly more powerful cpu that can be used with the X79, its PCIe 3.0 lanes and ability to run 64GB of memory there isn't much of a difference.

The question is then, what CPU are you currently running in your LGA 1155 board? Plus what kind of work do you use your computer to do?

i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz

That CPU still has quite a backbone, what kind of work do you do with your computer? Because a i7-2600k isn't going to limit you to anything, it is still a great gaming/workload processor. The fact you have that Z68 board I have to ask, have you ever considered overclocking? That P8Z68-V has a beefy 12 phase VRM just for the CPU. If you haven't and are looking for a little extra speed I would look into a closed liquid loop, or possibly a rasa kit. Then overclock that little booger to the ceiling. I see no point in a new purchase right now, unless you do some seriously heavy CPU workloads frequently.

Here is the thing...

When I did the first build, the case I bought was a cheaper antec which I cant put an aftermarket CPU cooler on and I want to improve my cooling as well as quiet things down a bit.  So I plan to add a corsair 105  or corsair 100i as well as a new case.

At the same time, I have a second computer which is about 10 years old that is overdue for replacement.

So part of me is thinking about just building a new computer with all the bells and whistles.   Im looking at the upcoming corsair 760t case, with this mb:  http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X79-DELUXE-DDR3-1333-Motherboards/dp/B00F6EAXV6?tag=vig-20 and 16g ram.

I do a little gaming (starcraft) -- but mostly web design and website management.  (I own a few big forums like www.forabodiesonly.com, www.lincolnvscadillac.com, and about 2 dozen others)    I also am considering getting into some video work so video editing may be in my future. (which would likely require multiple graphics cards)

2 things to consider.  My computers are virtually on 24/7 and I smoke. (please, no aggravation)   So my equipment wear levels are higher then someone who just casually games.

There really is no need for an X79 motherboard for the needs you describe. I'd suggest a z87 motherboard like https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z87/ or https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/Z87PRO/. Good quality and an i7-4770K should be more than enough horsepower. Z87 can handle multiple gpu with sufficient bandwidth for the activities you describe.

You won't need x79 for that, x79's platform is for HEAVY editting, lots of server hosting+ virtual machines, heavy photoshopping

z87 is PERFECT for everything you do, I'd say get a 4770k or 4670k with a good z87 board such as @brob suggested.

please do not post bit.ly links.

we'd prefer the use of direct links to vendors/manufacturers.

removes the inconspicuous use of monetary gain for website traffic (advertising).

Yeah that's a good board, if you don't like the gold color there's lots of other options to choose from, gigabyte's "ultra durable" line is great, and affordable

(if you care about aesthetics)
