Multiple factors come into play for if it will work 100%. In theory it should be ok, but the timings should be the same as well as a multitude of other factors. The RAM can only work as fast as your slowest piece of ram. You also lose out on the benefit of quad channel since you would be using 3 sticks of RAM.

I would recommend getting another set of the same ram.

If they the same speeds it will work, but whu you buy one 16gb ram, you could buy 2x8gb ram for 2x dual channel

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Why do you think he has a motherboard with quad-channel memory?

Also when 3 sticks installed, it would run likely in single channel mode, not even dual-channel.

What's this useful for?

If he is saying he has 2 sticks of 8gb ram and wants another I doubt he has a old trichannel board but only purchased 2 sticks of ram for it. He also said he has 4 slots as 2 and 4 are being used currently.... and yes putting in another stick would not be beneficial as I said but he asked if it would work properly which I also addressed lol.

Erm, i suspect more like dual channel, considering the machine specs in his profile.

What's this useful for?
