I have a PC at my house that hosts a Plex server, currently it has an i7-6700K and 32GB of RAM. I shared my movie and TV show library with friends and family so my server is often transcoding and streaming the files across the internet to their devices. Transcoding is a tough task for any processor especially at high resolutions like 4K and going from HDR to SDR.

My question is that I haven't been able to find out if switching to an AMD Ryzen processor like the Ryzen 7 2700X would yield noticeably better performance transcoding multiple files at ones. Does anyone have experience hosting a plex server the does a lot of transcoding and knowlege of how Plex manages resources on AMD vs Intel? Thanks Guys!

Yes, AMD CPUs have better price for the same performance as Intel ones, R7 2700X will be twice as fast in comparison with i7 6700k and ~70% faster in comparison with current generation i5 9600k for the same price.
