So I got this ancient Korean crossover 30Q5 monitor.  Yes.  The thing is terrible by modern standards.  My other stuff is worse though and I forgot that it had that annoying dual-link dviD requirement, so I didn’t research new monitors.

Anyway I trundled over time microcenter where they were selling the card I wanted at the price I wanted and challenged them to make the thing run 1440p x 60hz on my new card even though nothing has dual link dvi anymore.  They did it!  So I bought the card and the adaptor, (hdmi2) AMD brought it home.

 I can’t get it out of 1024x786.

i loaded up the software they had, which was for either win7 or win10 (I got 8.1) I chose 7,  and it claimed it loaded the card driver, which it seems to have done.  Card reads 5700xt and is driving the monitor (sort of). Monitor is listing as generic  though.  I want to get 1440p x hz out of this thing.

My next step would be to update to win10, but it  is not something I am looking forward to at 1024x786.

any help for an ancient monitor user?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
