Northbridge can affect most of your mobos functionality and keeping it cool is pretty good. However, i wouldn't worry too much if it stays at a relatively good temperature.

in the 775 and x2 days, it was a must because of the higher voltage everything had to run at.

and cutting voltage meant heat and lots of it. hence fans, fan and sinks, water blocks.. anything

to get them down to save the regulators.

for todays motherboards, its pretty much digital and split-up in phases. the AMD platform could

use some VRM cooling for monster overclocking and 24/7 protection. most majors have a sort of

work-around on solution to the VRM temperatures with large mass-area heat sinks.

I had a P45 motherboard a long time ago with a Q6600 G0 @ 4.05ghz (450*9) and chipset cooling was necessary, however i've just fitted a 60mm fan on it and it was enough with the stock heatsink...

you could try to put a side panel fan if you have this option, it will give more airflow in that area...

Are you overclocking it much or? You don't really need aftermarket cooling on motherboards these days unless your pushing it really hard.

And like airdeano said, 775 days everything had higher voltages, my rampage formula nb at stock was getting to low 60's celsius on full load, once overclocked you needed to get a cooler on it or even wc it to keep it stable.

A side fan can really help alot also, esp a fan like a silverstone air penetrator that can direct the flow towards it,if you are in need of lower temps
