Hi everyone need i bit of help currently problem solving trying to see what is happening

So i decided to readjust my OC

  • P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
  • OSV -.010
  • LLC Regular (0%)
  • 4.2ghz
  • 1.187-1.192v
  • 12hrs on Prime Pass

So i wanted to put my LLC to medium to see if can get lower voltage

Started @ -0.025v and went all the way to -0.055

@ 0.055 and 0.050 Prime just closed on me no errors just closed no BSOD

So this morning wanted to retest @ .055 and .050 to see if would work or was .045 my OSV point

but this where my day goes wrong i got emails from "WellsFargo" stating that i opened a bank account when i didn't

So went to bank to solve it ended by me having to send a email to see if spam or something

When i got home to send emails keyboard wouldn't work CMStorm so had to use virtual one

So started to do a virus scan in maybe emails had virus 5mins in BSOD

Okay so went into bios to change to stock since i know OC i was in might not be stable

when did this and restarted got an fan error was o forgot to turn off fan monitor since using a fan controller

but when turned off still getting error (have not fixed this yet)

On a side note started to use another keyboard at first didn't want to work but once in stock did work so then looked into CMStorm replugged in couple of usb and nothing

unplugged micro usb from keyboard still nothing then rechecked didn't replug all the way now working (fixed a Problem) :P

Okay so at the moment just sent the emails to bank and running scans on drive to see if virus in PC

So wanted to ask when Prime closed on .050-.050 does that mean it was unstable there?

Will be doing 24hr runs since have time this weekend

Wanted to change the LLC to 25% in hoping to lower my voltage and better temps the 12hr prime test on old OC got to 74-76c on a Hyper 212

Thank You for all your help  :)

Okay a bit of an update

Fixed keyboard and fan problem

Ran Prime for 6hr @ OSV -0.045v then closed on me

So what does it mean when Prime closes on you no errors no BSOD just closes

Prime does not close at all if your computer is stable, it can though minimize to tray but will still be running. If the actual proces just shutted down it might have crashed. Normally you get a 0x124 bsod or prime itself tells you its not stable.

2nd thing i always suggest putting LLC on high, i even got it on extreme. What this does is increase your voltage of the cpu when its at high load. Normally during load the voltage drops because of higher heat generation and that will increase the internal resistance of the chip. So LLC counters the drop in voltage. With my LLC on extreme it actually increases the vcore under load compared to idle. So you have to find your sweet spot. Just look in cpu-z to the voltage when its idle and when its loaded and if it still drops then you have to put llc a bit higher.

PS: what does OSV stand for in your bios?

Running: i7 4770k cooled by Swiftech H220 (Delided and Lapped) (5ghz+ capable) - MSI Z87 mPower MaX - 4x 4gb 2400mhz corsair vengeance cl10 - 660Ti Graphics in a Fractal R4

@Located thanks for the help

Yeah Prime will just close on me on the second think -.050 osv test i checked if it minimized and was in icon tray but when moused over went away... :(  So yeah its crashing

So that means its not stable thats good to know use to getting BSOD or Error codes not just it closing on me :P

Ahh okay think i have a better understanding of the LLC

but yeah can't retest atm but i do remember when testing the voltage does droop and thats was one reason thought LLC would help i just didn't know how high i should set it

also i do believe  have droop when running the test say osv-.050v would move from 1.168v,1.176v, and 1.184v

For your mobo LLC @ high is what % medium for me is 25% think high is 50%

also sorry forgot to put what mobo i am using

P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3

On another note OSV is just my weird abbreviations  B)  "offset voltage"

want to try osv in want to learn it don't think much of a benefit to use fixs or offset (that i know of) but would be nice to learn

PS: sadly this weekend didn't turn out to be as free as i wanted so i probably won't be able to test till wednesday the earliest but most likely next weekend

It is usually best to go with a fixed voltage than a offset voltage. This way it is easier to find a good stable lower voltage. Then setting you LLC is easier as you will be able to tell how much Vdroop you are actually getting.

I see yeah i was hoping to do a offset in wanted to learn it but once i get a stable OSV ill do a fix to see the difference ;)

btw i am using this guide to help me with OSV if that helps in any

Also once again hopefully i can't get back to testing next weekend

Well i strongly suggest you set voltage control to manual, and just enter the voltage you want. It will be way easier in the end.

If prime keeps crashing you can use this  http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/IntelBurnTest.shtml

Its another stress tester, though make sure to set the threads acordingly to your cpu. On i7's it tends to set 4 threads while a i7 has 8 ofcourse.

I also suggest putting llc on 75% and see if it gets higher then the idle voltage, if it does then do 50% if its roughly the same then keep it and if it still drops then put it 100%

  • 2 months later...

Hey everyone this weekend i believe i'll finally have time to start testing my OC once again but wanted to ask some question before i get started

I have been looking around in the forums and i use Prime95 for testing and usually do blend test but been seeing a good amount of people on forum use small FTTs

what should i run for the 24hr test blend or small FTTs?
