so 5 minutes later at 3.4gb now and about 500mb of that is just from chrome.

Could be Windows memory leak.

What is the RAM usage when you boot into Windows?

It is Chrome RAM hungry browser. 2.8GB without Chrome running is normal so it is not Windows memory leak.

its 2.8 at startup.

then its 4.6 after 30 seconds, chrome is only 500ish mb, so thats 4.1gb without chrome. Is that a memory leak?

And if i run memtest and turn it off, it will drop to about 2.2gb, then slowly climb to like 3.5.

Why is this?

Even if it was these, doesnt explain the loss of ram consumption after memtest.

Try turn off these startups then restart the computer and wait a couple secs then open up task manager to check the ram usage.

Can you spot anything in the Task Manager using a lot of ram?

just turned it on, 3.7gb at startup, chrome about 300mb at the moment.

Whats using high ram?? Well if everything on task manager is all there is, it really doesnt add up, so not really.

Heres 3.9gb of ram usage now.

3.9GB(21% RAM usage) with Chrome opening seems normal to me. Chrome is known to be heavy on RAM. How much RAM do you have? I have 32GB RAM and with just 1 Firefox browser opening I am already on 3.2GB to 3.5GB. On startup it was like 2GB RAM. Did you turn off all startups except WD on startups?  Cuz I shouldn't see Razer Snypase in the Task Manager.

If it is a Windows Memory leak then your RAM usage will be in mid 70% and above with nothing opening and idling at the desktop.

Can you boot into Safe with Networking and see the RAM usage in there?

Startup only means programs that start up at start.  Doesn't mean other programs can't start at a later point since you gave them permission to do so by installing them,  just fyi :)

And,  well,  this is very confusing.

How much RAM does your PC have installed? How much is usable?

Please go in task manager, go to performance tab > memory

Idle,

I got 16gb of ram installed, it should all be usable, or 15.9gb as it normally says.

I see,  well, can you still post a screen shot of the RAM tab? I'll be honest I think everything is normal,  it's still a bit on the high side of course so maybe there is something.

Here's my RAM usage btw,  after several hours uptime,  meanwhile I stopped Steam from doing this nonsense, it's only using about 100mb now...

Its always like that... unless I have other applications open of course.

I mean even the high side thing of course is all in all ok.

but my main question is why when filling it up and stopping the stress test it decreases? Which files does windows decide to close when ram is low? Or does it start compressing ram?
