Wifi Card not working on linux

I have just had to completely reinstall Linux mint and I have managed to completely forgotten the work around on how i got my WIFI working. I'm running a Realtek rtl8812AU chipset and at this point I've managed to get the adapter to start working sort of but whenever i go to connect to a network, i put in the password and it just pops up another window a little later asking for the password again rinse and repeat for a few times then it just fails to connect. Any help would be great.
