Computer restarts without warning while gaming

Hello,

I have noticed for the last few months that my computer will seemingly at random restart at the end of heros of the storm games...it seems like it is right when i click the "exit' button.  It does not do this every time, but it regularly occurs.  i havent really changed anything recently, making the whole situation more confusing.

As far as i can tell, there are no event logs being created, however i might be looking in the wrong section.

I have tried doing a GPU stress test (heaven benchmark 4.0) but haven't been able to recreate the issue.  EDIT: I was able to recreate issue in GPU stress test...now what does that tell me.

Temps under load have been around

CPU: 40C

GPU: 70C

My specs are:

  • Windows 10 pro
  • MSI P67A-c43 motherboard
  • Intel i5 2500k - not overclocked
  • 32GB ram
  • nvidia gtx 970
  • WD 500GB SSD boot drive wds500g2B0A-00SM50
  • Thermaltake toughpower gold  750 (750W 80+ gold)

what is a good free stress test?

Update: ran GPU stress test again. and it restarted the system about 3 -4 minutes into the test.

I have the latest drivers running.

Going to reset CMOS now...

Is everything updated?

What about CPU? Run a CPU stress test and clear CMOS.

I ran a CPU stress test and no issues.  I then cleared CMOS...this made my previously wworking boot drive no longer work, but i had a spare...that works but has the same issue.  overall i would say it got worse...

Did the sata port fail?

Did you set the boot drive in the BIOS? I am starting to think its a MOBO issue.

I did set boot drive in BIOS, one of the old drives in my system was my previous boot drive.  it was apparently higher in the boot list.  i tried manually selecting the right drive via f11 at startup, it showed the windows logo and then gave bsod with message about bad boot record.

i dont think it was the actual port as it started working and then failed partway into booting

Do you have spare parts? start troubleshooting one by one.

I feel like your MOBO is dying, time to move on unless you see improvements in the last 2 things.
