Hello!

1. Budget & Location
My budget is about $650 US, my location is Austin, TX.

2. Aim
I've been looking to upgrade my pc recently. This rig will be used for games like fortnite, overwatch, CSGO, COD, a little bit of Minecraft, with discord, chrome, and a music player open in the background. I would like to get over 144fps on the 2nd highest default settings in those games running at 1440p for the easier to run games, 1080p for harder games to run like COD.

3-4. Monitors, Peripherals
My main monitor is a Pixio 1440p 144hz display. My 2 side ones are just cheap ones that I just threw on there. One is probably 1080p 60-30hz. The second is a piece of junk square monitor that only has DVI and VGA inputs. I don't plan on  upgrading my keyboard and mouse. I will probably upgrade my side monitors later.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I'm upgrading because my CPU is being severely bottlenecked. Also because I can't use the full potential of my monitor's 144hz because the 1050ti can't get over 60fps in most games, I would like over my monitors refresh rate (144hz).

6. My upgrade
For CPU I was looking at the R5 2600 from the i5 7600. I'll be upgrading the cooler from the default Ryzen one to a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for overclocking. I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping my 16GB 2400MHz RAM. For the MOBO I was going for the ASRock B450M Pro4 Micro-ATX, right now I have the Asus B250F. For the arguably most important part, the GPU I was looking at the RTX 2060 over my current 1050ti ?. I'm willing to spend the most on the GPU because I clearly didn't prioritize it when I built this rig 3ish years ago during the Bitcoin boom. My PSU is currently a trash white rated 500W, I was thinking about the Corsair 450W Bronze rated.

Please let me know if this upgrade is worth it. And if or what I should change. I will be selling the stuff that is being replaced.

Upgrade:

So, a few things jump out to me:

  • Don't get the EVO 212. It's a really average-at-best cooler. Spend a little more and get something significantly better.
  • If you're going with Ryzen, you'll want to upgrade the RAM to a 3200mhz kit.
  • I'd try and get a better PSU; something with modular cables at least.
  • I'm guessing your Pixio has Freesync? Might be worth grabbing an AMD card instead of the Nvidia one.
  • Worth is relative. You'll get better performance, absolutely, but is it worth it to you? Only you can answer that ;)

Most important note: Wait for Black Friday. You'll either save a ton, or get significantly better parts. Don't stay focused on the parts you've picked though, see what's on sale and grab one of those items instead.

What kind of gpu would get 144, these will be on 2nd highest setting in games.

5700XT(maybe), 2080/S and up.

Settings will make a difference but you need some horsepower for that FPS and resolution.

The CPU might be an issue too.  9700K/9900K or the faster 3000 series Ryzen.

If you want 1440p with game options on maximum and everything turned on and set to max all AA methods in nv panel.  If you do this your going to be pegged at 60fps.  If you want 144fps even if you turn off nv panel options and set game to medium or high you will not achieve 144fps.  The 2060 is a double digit frame rate card.  It will peg you at 60fps which is appealing for some, but for you with that monitor I recommend a 2080 and you can play COD at 1440p as well.  Also you wont have to reduce game settings and not use all AA methods which are free with a 2080.  Even the 2070 wont give you 144fps with few drops.  Your only choice for 1440p and 144fps is 2080 or 2080Ti if you plan on playing above 1440p which there is no point as once you turn on all AA settings in nv panel you will see no jaggies with 1440p and what not.

That being said, I agree with what everyone has said. Wait until Black Friday and pick up a 5700XT (after market cooler) or a 2070 Super for the best experience.

A 2060 would be fine for Fortnight, CSGO, Overwatch and Minecraft but not COD or any other AAA title at 144hz.

Welcome to the forum.

  • What kind of cooler do you think, new to this whole overclocking thing.
  • Why would upgrading the ram have to do with ryzen?
  • I'm not going for looks on this build, so non-modular seems like a better option.
  • What kind of AMD card do you recommend.
  • Seems worth it to me if I got a couple deals.
  • Not very new to the forum lol, just don't how much performance certain parts will give me.

  • Ryzen needs fast RAM to perform well.
  • Depends how the case is laid out. You'll have a load of cable clutter, which can greatly restrict air movement.

  • How does the Noctua NH-D9L sound?
  • Any recommendations on ram? Non-rgb is ok (even though it obviously increases performance) since I'm on a tight budget.
  • My current PSU (Non-modular) works fine, I can go through a little struggle to save a couple bucks.
  • Can you include a link to the 5700 XT, I did a quick search and the all look $400+.
  • How should I do this, I don't have $700 laying around so I have to sell my current stuff first. So I wont be able to game then. Luckily I have a Laptop I can use to do everything else in the meantime. But I don't know when I should sell everything. This upgrade was originally meant for near next black friday after a summer job.
  • I didn't say I was active lol.

Looks pretty good. Cooler is ugly as balls but it does perform well.

I really wouldn't try overclocking your RAM, it's a pain in the ass and doesn't always work. If you have the patience, go ham, but it's complex.

I'd check reviews of that card, some XFX cards have horrible coolers.

As for selling your old stuff, if you price it properly it'll sell within hours on the Reddit Hardware swap.

Again, though, wait for Black Friday.
