Hi, so i've built this PC for my gf, and after 5 days of using it trouble free it black screened. Since then we've been unable to get the PC working.

We can turn the PC on, however it won't output a display (can't even get into the bios). When the PC is turned on all the lights and fans are on : (CPU Fan, Case fan, GPU fan, motherboard light).

As well as this once the PC is turned on, it's impossible to turn it off via the power button (or reset it), having tried holding down the power button for >10s. The only way i can turn it off once it is turned on is via the power supply.

Things I've tried so far:

I've tried to use different monitors. I've tried using both the HDMI and display prt cable from the GPU. I've tried re plugging the GPU and PSU power cable. I've check that both CPU 8 pin and MB 24 pin are secure

I've tried reseating the ram. Using only 1 ram stick. I've taken my Graphics card which is an old AMD MSI R9 390 and put it into this system and have the same problem.

I'm honestly out of ideas :-(.

If anyone could help it would be amazing. I'll try and be as clear and concise as possible.

Thanks

Do you have a mobo speaker or mobo diagnostic led?

Try find one from an old pc, plug it in the speaker header, you should hear a beep when its succesfully booted.

I don't sadly. Motherboard itself has yellow light underneath the IO, but i'm not sure if that's the same thing that you're looking for.

Yeah your board doesn't have a speaker or diagnosis led.

so yo must install this one, without it there's no indication that the pc has booted.

you know the beep sound you use to hear in old pc, that beep has a code, really helps finding the problem if the monitor is out.

There are 3 kinds of this speakers:

- one that soldered on the motherboard.

- one that is included in the case (most modern case don't have this).

- the one i'm talking about.

Go to your local pc shops, it a very common item.

You should find the header near the switch headers (see the docs).

I had this problem and I fixed it by simply taking the CPU out and cleaning the thermal paste off the CPU and my heatsink and reapplying the thermal paste again, If the other suggestions don't work out I suggest trying this one.

Strange, thanks for the advice lol, I'm just curious why it stopped in the first place ?

Hey man, got hold of a motherboard speaker, and literally nothing happened, no sound or anything. Try it both ways round and I've made sure it was going in the right header. Any ideas?

Ok, there's something wrong with the motherboard.
Reset the cmos, pull out the battery wait for 10 sec to put it back, then power on.

Have you tried the barebone method (cpu + 1 mem only). if it beeps then you put GPU.

Well if you tried that and nothing happened, i can assume the motherboard is dead.

Since it was new, you can make use of the warranty.
