I recently upgraded into a bundle of 3900x and MSI MEG ACE but I decided to keep using the old H75 AIO. The problem is when I run the AIDA64 to benchmark the CPU at 4.4Ghz the temp hits about 102'C/215'F in about 2 mins. I cannot find a description for H75's design TDP but I've seen using H75 to cool a 8350 without any problem. So far nothing in the BIOS has been changed but the CPU clock speed. Does this mean I need a better AIO?

Well you're cooling a high end CPU on an old, low end, 120mm AIO. I'm confused as to what you expected.

To answer the question, yeah you'll need a new cooler. What case are you running, and are you determined to get another AIO or are you willing to go air (performs better for less money, has less failure points)?

It’s really hard to decide...... I’m using a Coolermaster HAF XB evo, and the only 2-fan slot has been used for my graphics card. That’s also the reason I chose H75 back to 4 years ago. I’ve been considering about modding the case for a long time in order to have another 2-fan slot. Probably won’t be able to get a high-end air cooler since the height has been limited by another 140mm fan on the top. I would not mind go air cooled as long as the can keep quiet. I do have enough Noctua 120mm fans.

This case? http://us.coolermaster.com/product/Detail/case/haf-series/haf-xb-evo.html

Specs say the CPU cooler clearance is 180mm, that's anything up to the NH-D15S, which is the nicest cooler Noctua makes (that and the NH-U12A).

@Den-Fi Has built in the HAF XB Evo IIRC, has a 3900X, and knows Noctua stuff so he can probably give a solid recommendation.

Thanks for the tip! First time using this forum stuff?

I lied. The fan on the top is a 200mm fan with 30mm height. https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-A20-PWM-Premium-200x30mm/dp/B071SLFBNY/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=noctua+200mm+fan&qid=1571174722&sr=8-1

That's a different build. My HAF XB has a 2700X and a D15.

Yeah, my point was that you have a 3900X so you'd know what it takes to cool it. I assume the NH-D15 would be overkill for one at stock, but IDK. Haven't looked a lot into how hot the higher core count Ryzens run, but I know they can pull a lot of voltage with their still very aggressive boost.

Yeah. The u12A tames it, so the D15 wouldn't be a problem either.
