Hey all, Recently picked up this logitech speaker set, and its been decent so far, yet the bass response is muddy and muffled. I knew what I was getting into with this kind of system, but now I am wondering if it is possible for me to change the subwoofer driver to a better one to improve sound quality. I assume if i found a driver with the same ohms, power and size everything would work? I was thinking something like a dayton audio driver?

Cheers,

Ryan

Yeah, it's a basic speaker box, replace as you see fit within parameters.

If its designed and built anything like the z5500, which i believe it is; The muddy response isnt due to the driver, its the frequency crossover built into the onboard amp and controller.

Replacing the driver 'may' help somewhat , but that crossover is going to be the same.

Like @SolarNova said, the distortion comes from the amplifier and the cheap crossover, fitting a different driver might cause more issues if its displacement isn't the same. The enclosure is also most likely resonating which can cause lot's of issues, I would first try and stuff the enclosure with proper stuffing material, something similar to this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/401849591704?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=401849591704&targetid=605443872958&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9045309&poi=&campaignid=1506016294&mkgroupid=56472528605&rlsatarget=pla-605443872958&abcId=1139596&merchantid=138358529&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjorr_r6e5QIVitDeCh2SoQhBEAQYAiABEgKtJvD_BwE

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
