As much as possible really, Could build a second PC if needed.

Just get a 4 bay QNAP and shove 4x 8TB drives in it.

The QNAP TS-451+ would work.

Hello, I'm looking for a NAS to store all of my music onto, Budget of around £2000, Not really bothered where i buy it from, Whether it be newegg or amazon etc. It's going to be used along with my McIntosh MS500, so just needs ethernet and USB connectivity, Thank's for all the help :)

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

So you have no idea how much music you have, or stored?

Or is it you just want to spent $2000?

How much space are you using right now for your music?

Right now about 1TB is music, But i don't have my whole collection downloaded, And I'm always buying more, So it would be nice to have some headroom.

I use Seagate IronWolf Pros. I have 20 of em in service in my QNAPs at home. They have served me well. Though the same could likely be said of WD Reds and other drive vendors.

I built my own freenas box, i had a bunch of spare hardware so only needed to purchase a motherboard and case. I went with ITX. 4x 3tb WD Red NAS drives in a scary 'raid'.

You could look for a used server as it comes with hot-swappable drives, etc. and would probably be quite a bit cheaper than just all new hardware along with possibly having more power/functionality.

As for drives, you need to stick with something designed for a NAS or servers. I'm using some WD Ultrastar drives that have been treating me well so far. They are rated for a lot more use than a standard consumer drive, with the 5 year warranty, and really don't cost much more than a WD Red drive.

I might go for the IronWolf Pro's then with the QNAP enclosure, Would give me 31TB of space for about 1600 pounds, and i can get it all on amazon. I'm going to go for that setup, Thank's for the help again :)

No problem! Building a NAS is nice when you enjoy that kind of thing, but if you want to be relatively hands off, pre-built NAS are good too.

Don't forget to account for the loss from implementing RAID. It really sucks loosing data and raid is an easy way to protect it. The Ultrastar drives do go up to 14TB per drive with up to 512MB cache if that is what you are looking for.....

I'm not too into system building, But i can do maintenance on an air cooled system, such as re-pasting every now and then etc. So a pre-built NAS is defo the way to go for me :)
