I'm interested in buying a NAS drive but because it's obviously network attached, doesn't that mean that transfers are going to be slow? How do they work?

Slow? If you consider 1000mbps slow I guess you can call it slow.

I mean, doesn't it use your network to share files? That would be about 8 Megabytes per second for me.

Yes it does, but with a wired connection and a gigabit interface you're looking at 125 MB/s.

Either buy a pre done nas from synology or wd maybe
and the other option is research about using nas"s and find Components that are reliable with good warranties
