Z400 to aftermarket PSU and pc case

Hello guys!

 

I have a HP Z400 machine that has a xeon X5660, a gtx 1060 3gb a 120 gb ssd and a 500 gb hdd now I want to move the whole thing to a aftermarket case and I will be adding a gyx 1660 and another 240 gb ssd and here is the problem that psu in the machine is 375 watts and I need a at least 450 watt psu for the upgrade. The current psu wont fit in the aftermarket case and the aftermarket psu wont work on the hpz400 is the a clean solution for this???

Why do you think you need more than the 375W PSU? Can you take a picture of the label on the PSU?

Because i want to add another ssd and i will also be adding a GTX 1660 in future.

The 1660 is a 120W card. Storage drives don't add a significant amount of power. Expect the PC to draw about 200W from the PSU.

So I wont really need a big psu even if I add a 1660?

And what about 1660 ti does this guy also needs 120 watts?

If you want a 5520 board in a standard form factor, yeah. Old server boards for this platform are cheap and let you use ECC-Registered RAM which is also super cheap. If you want X58 then they're usually more expensive. Prices have come down a lot though, you can probably find a solid board for around $70-90 if you shop around. For server boards you'd want to look for a SuperMicro one, OEM boards like Dell's or HP's will have the same proprietary connectors you're trying to get away from. For X58 boards, ASUS boards are mostly solid and Gigabyte has a good ones too IIRC. EVGA's higher end boards are very, very good, and MSI has some solid mobos as well, though they're harder to find and because of that, harder to find information about or help for. 

Also to clarify, Intel 5520 is the server chipset, X58 is the HEDT one. 5520 lets you use server features like ECC Registered RAM and such (X58 mobos won't run this, even with a Xeon CPU), X58 allows you to overclock. Only motherboard I know of that blurs this line is the EVGA SR-2, which runs Intel 5520 but can also overclock two CPUs. 

Also on running Xeons on X58 motherboards, try and avoid any V1.0 boards. I have two EVGA Classified V1.0 boards, I have to solder some pins together on the motherboard itself in order to run Westmere-EP Xeons in it. If you can't run Westmere-EP Xeons, then the only gulftown hexacores available to you are the i7s (expensive) and IIRC a single specific W series Xeon SKU (also expensive). If you see a good mobo, just ask in the X58 thread link in my sig, or google the model name + "westmere EP compatability" and make sure people have confirmed it works. Any boards past the first initial gen of X58 support Westmere-EP Xeons without issue AFAIK.

I was wrong my psu is actually 475 watts i think so I wont have any issues adding a 1660 ti, another ssd and another hdd right?
