Old Game, new GPU

I recently picked up a Sapphire Nitro+ 5700 XT, and so far so good except for one interesting thing, it seems to not run Final Fantasy III from my Steam library.  It's not a graphically intense game, obviously, But it's just glitchy, and crashes on the title screen.

 

I tried reinstalling the game, and have the latest version of the AMD software installed.  Is this just a matter of newer hardware not yet having the support for an older piece of software?  Any suggestions?  It's not like I'm chomping at the bit to play Final Fantasy III for the hundredth time in my life, but I was  just checking all the games in my library to make sure they work with the new GPU and this is the only one that doesn't.  Thought that was strange.
