Mobo and Memory

Hi

 

I was going to get this mobo for my new desk PC project but am unsure it will be able to support the 2x 2080ti's i plan to use in SLI.

 

ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO INTEL Z390 (SOCKET 1151) DDR4 ATX MOTHERBOARD

 

Can any one advise.

I advise to not purchase z390 platform in 2019, Ryzen3000 is better in nearly every aspect (while being cheaper too). Other than the 9900k giving slightly better performance with games, which is negligible.

 

But to answer your question. Yes the Maximus 11 Hero supports SLI.

OK Thanks. I mean is the 2nd PCI slot inferior to the 1st??

the 1st is x16 and 2nd is x8.

Should i get a mobo with x18 on both pci slots??

All 3 of the GPU slots on the ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO INTEL Z390 are PCIEx16. You can run 2 graphics cards no problem.

One last.

The mobo says 2666mhz up to 4400mhz with overclock.

If i get 4400mhz ram will it still work even if i dont overclock for some time.

No 4400MHz will not work. Just buy a 3000MHz or 3200 kit. 

 

It is a bit complicated and hard to explain, but advertised 4400MHz will 100% not work unless if you get extremely lucky. 

 

Remember to activate XMP profile for your RAM in BIOS or else it will be stuck running at 2133MHz from the factory. Look up XMP profile on youtube for an explanation.

OK. And it best to get 64gb of slower ram or 16gb of faster..when overclocked??

Depends if you really use above 16GB. If so, then of course 64GB functions better. But for gaming 16GB is enough, max 32GB. And 16GB  3000Mhz is somewhat noticably faster in those settings than 64GB 2133Mhz.
