I know that AMD just released their new r9 and r7 series of graphics cards, also I know that the non reference cards from manufacturers such as Asus and Gigabyte were released even more recently. But I am looking to buy a new card from AMD and am worried that if I buy their current cards, I will be making a mistake for higher performing, cooler running cards just around the corner. So my question is, will it be worth the wait till next generation, or are the r9 series(more specifically the r9 290 or 290x)good enough for the money to hold off until next generation (heat and performance in mind)?

I would buy now. AMD won't release truly new cards until the end of 2014 Most likely.

new hardware is always being released and if you worry about not having the latest then you will never buy anything , just get it now and play games - not like its underpowered :)
