need help with efi bios / shell

i bought an addon LAN card with bootrom (you can boot from this LAN) but it doesn't work when I install it on the board that I need it to. it does boot okay in other boards which at first make me think that the pcie slot is gunked (turns out it wasn't). the board reads it fine when I load win7 which makes me think this is a bios or shell issue. any help is appreciated
