3700x not performing as expected

krzychumz

I've recently build a PC, topic here:

Long story short Its a 3700x with a stock cooler (for now) sitting in Asus x570 Prime-PRO with 2x8gb ram G.Skill Tridenz Z Neo 3600mhz

I've been trying to play with the PBO, Auto overclock, but i can't get even to 4.2ghz boost.

I have updated BIOS to the new "ABBA" version, did not see any improvement at all.

Played with BIOS, switching PBO from Auto to enabled, raised the PPT to 180 (because RYZEN MASTER wouldn't raise it from 88W after bios update), no results.

I've honestly had the best results by overclocking it manually to 4.2ghz skipping all the "Overdrives", but that kind of performance is still not the advertised one.

In Cinebench I scored 4455 which is ~300 points lower than expected.

I don't really know what other details I should provide, so I will provide all info needed when asked.

The performance just doesn't feel right for me, I've heard that the 4.4ghz boost is possible maaaybe on a single core but i haven't even seen solid 4.2...

UPDATE:
After setting up the clocks @4.2 and voltage to 1.3 i scored 4777, which is what i would be expecting. Temps didn't go over 75c, i let the fan run at 100%. The run on the screen with 83c was on lower fan speeds. I had some crashes on 4250 but i was doing it through ryzen master, not the bios.

Run the process as high and it will get some more points.

Stock cooler will gimp pbo

It's more the boost speeds that I'm concerned about, the cooler does a great job actually, after setting up the fan curve I'm not going over 75c in benchmark. I'll order some AIO just for peace of mind but as I've said earlier, this processor reaches 4.2 only on manual all core boost.

It crashed at 4250... ?‍♂️

Installed Corsair's 280mm AIO and temps obviously improved, maybe not that much but they're more stable.

What I've noticed is completely different reads of the CPU Temp in Ryzen Master and AIDA (screenshot)

Why is there 20c difference? And most important - which one is real?

I've finally got 4.2ghz but that's still far from 4.4... :(

EDIT:

Also... it stil crashes on anything higher than 4250mhz in manual mode

Mine is hitting up to 4,250 during games and shit, but in cinebench it reachs 4,100 max, my main problem is the same as everybody high voltages that causes high temperatures. During these tests, it reaches 84C i thought it was thermal paste/cooler, but even reapplying it still reached that. About the differences i saw in a few researches that programs reads the cpu have a offset of 20 degrees, idk why but i would trust ryzen master

Main rig: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X cooled by a Noctua NH-U14S; Mem: 16 GB(2x8) G.Skill TridentZ White 3200 MHz; GPU: EVGA RTX 2070 XC; MOBO: MSI B450 Tomahawk; Storage: XPG Spectrix S40G M.2 512GB SSD; Kingston A400 480GB SSD; 1TB Western Digital Blue HDD; PSU: Corsair CX750M Semi-modular (80+ bronze); CASE: Thermaltake Commander C36.

Secondary rig: CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 @3.60GHz(Turbo @4.00GHz) cooled by Corsair H60; Mem: G.Skill RipJawsX DDR3 16GB(4x4) OC@2133MHz (11-11-11-30 (1.6V)); GPU: None(for now); MOBO: Gigabyte Z87-HD3; Storage:HyperX 120GB; PSU: Thermaltake SmarT series 750w (80+ bronze); CASE: Thermaltake Chaser A41.

Yea I've seen that article, but I thought it's for 1xxxx CPU's like 1800x.

I've been advised from a guy that knows "a little" about overclocking to change the motherboard to one with more powerful VRM's, I've picked the MSI MEG x570 ACE and hope for more OC compatibilities and stability. Especially memory clocks.

The ASUS Bios with the  "AI Tweaker" is driving me nuts! And I am happy to return this Prime-Pro mobo back where it came from

You really should be doing per CCX OCing since you have 1 CCX that will be better than the others.

For instance, in my 3900X, CCX0 can do all core 4.5GHz, CCX1 can do 4.4GHz, and the rest are around 4.2.
So if you do all core and one CCX isn't as good, you will be limited to the weakest one.

That's something I haven't thought of, good idea.

And set the voltage? Or just let it do it's crazy 0.9-1.5v?

Mine's done fine with auto voltage.
