Leaks are very rare with AIOs. Most of the time, if there's a leak, it's caused by the user being careless when installing it or working on the system. 

 

That said, there's more to go wrong on an AIO. Not so much a worry of it damaging anything else, but air coolers are inherently more reliable as there's less to go wrong. Typically it's just a fan that would break on an air cooler, which is easy to fix/replace. AIOs have the pump, tubing, block fittings and fan(s) to worry about.
