I am having difficulties upgrading to Windows 10 1903. I get the following error whenever I try to update:

" 0xC1900101 - 0x30018

The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZE operation"

I have no clue what is actually causing this error.

What I have tried:

  • Driver updates
  • Updated the bios on my mobo
  • Removing all usb devices
  • Disconnecting all drives except c
  • ran DISM and SFC
    • passed

Is there anything else that I may be able to try?

EDIT:

So what is happening as well is that when the update hits 50%, I get a black screen and the update simply hangs.

I did and that fails too. That is how I found the error code initially. I attached the screenshot I got from the assistant.

Gosh uncle billy blows...  The red light can be on for CPU or for RAM.  If you can get into BIOS set everything to default and save and exit and lets see what happens.

That is the part that is going to make me cry. Let me do that regardless.

On the bios, I tried the original bios my mobo was on, 2 subsequent BIOS', and it's currently on the latest BIOS. All with the same result. I'm going to try putting everything on their default settings and see how that works out.
