Does this SATA splitter really work?

Does this really extend 1 SATA port to 4 SATA ports? Will it not overload the Motherboard side of the port?

It converts a Mini SAS port into 4 sata ports. You use them with a PCIe card or RAID controller with SFF-8087 ports on it.
